A page means one printed side, so a double-sided sheet counts as two pages. A five-page black & white letter is 20p × 5 in printing on top of the postage; the same letter in colour is 30p × 5.
Envelope bands
Postage depends on how many sheets the letter needs.

Printing on both sides halves the sheet count, so a 12-page double-sided letter is six sheets — often one band cheaper than the same letter single-sided.
