Send a letter to your bank
Banks are required to handle written complaints through a formal process, and a letter starts that clock in a way a chat window does not.
What people send
- A formal complaint before going to the Ombudsman
- Disputing a transaction or a charge
- Closing or changing an account
- Correspondence about a bereavement or power of attorney
Which service to choose
Use a signed service for a complaint. If the matter goes to the Financial Ombudsman Service, being able to show when you wrote matters.
Getting the address right
Banks publish a specific complaints address that is often different from the branch. Check the address on your statement or the bank's website.
